Located directly behind the main Kedarnath Temple, this historical monument is the final resting place (Samadhi) of Adi Shankaracharya, the great 8th-century philosopher who revived Hinduism. He is credited with establishing the four sacred Advaita seats (Char Dham) across India and restoring the Kedarnath temple. The original site was washed away in the 2013 floods and has been beautifully reconstructed by the government, featuring a magnificent, 12-foot-tall stone statue of the seer in a peaceful, underground meditation posture.
