Overview & Story
Manali sits at 2,050 metres in the Kullu Valley, on the banks of the Beas River. It is the most visited hill station in Himachal Pradesh and serves as the gateway to Spiti Valley, Rohtang Pass, and Ladakh via the Manali-Leh highway. On the Shimla Manali Kullu trip, one day is spent exploring Manali itself.
**Vashisht Temple**
Vashisht is a village 3 km from Manali, at the base of the hills above the Beas River. The temple complex here has natural hot springs that are channeled into two separate bathing areas — one for men and one for women. The springs are sulphurous and the water is genuinely hot. The Vashisht Temple itself is dedicated to the sage Vashisht and has some carved stone panels.
Essential Travel & Packing Tips
Expert recommendations for a safe and comfortable trip
The Hadimba Temple forest is protected — no construction is allowed within a certain radius. The cedar trees around the temple are very old.
The Jogini Waterfall trail is steeper than it looks. Wear shoes with grip.
Old Manali's cafés are relaxed and serve good coffee and Tibetan food. Allow an hour for wandering.
